Own Stories photo series was created in 2005, when Maryna Batsiukova became interested in in commonly found, but rarely described, old family portraits. At the exhibition, we will see photographs taken by the artist of the pictures, which – more or less solemnly exhibited – can be seen in every home today, both in cities and in the Belarusian province.

In a sense, these photos captured fragments of the soul, inner life, character of the people, that are no longer alive. A flash in the eye of nameless heroes is the main theme of Maryna’s photographs. We do not know, where and when these photos of the photos were taken, but thanks to the artist’s creative work the present met the past.

Maryna Batsiukova – born in 1961, Minsk, Belarus – is mostly involved in documentary and conceptual photography. Everyday life, the condition of an individual and the relationship of a man with the social reality that surrounds us are the main topics of her works.
